Luncheon on the Grass by Edouard Manet is one of my most favorite paintings of Manet. My most favorite is Olympia but she is not on a sock yet. Manet was an artist that went from the old guard to the new guard, so Realism to Impressionism. His paintings were scandalous to be put in the Salon of the French Academy so he showed his painting at the Salon des Refuses. He was also painting nudes not as goddesses but as models with dressed bourgeois men. What was also different was how he perceived the people as being flat like playing cards.
